Why Buy the 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee?
As SUVs go, the Grand Cherokee delivers everything you could want. You can tailor yours to be an off-road warrior or a luxurious family hauler – or both. This year, the Grand Cherokee offers a powerful V6 and three V8 engine options, so you can assemble the ride that suits your day-to-day drive. This SUV also supplies best-in-class off-road capabilities, with multiple four-wheel-drive systems available and hardware like skid plates to help you navigate especially difficult terrain.
Which Grand Cherokee Model Is Best?
This mid-size, five-passenger SUV is available in seven trim models: the Laredo, Limited, Trailhawk, Overland, Summit, SRT, and Trackhawk.
The entry-level Laredo starts you off with an excellent modern features lineup. Some standard equipment includes a rearview camera, dual-zone automatic climate controls, and USB ports that allow you to keep devices charged on the go. If you’re looking for a little extra power, check out the Limited. Its optional 5.7-liter V8 gives you a bigger kick as you head up steep off-road trails. This model also includes remote start, a 115-volt power outlet, and leather upholstery, giving you all the comforts of home no matter how deep you venture down the trail.
The Trailhawk is ready for a truly rugged ride. It comes standard with the Quadra-Drive II four-wheel-drive system, which features low-range gearing for increased precision on difficult terrain. Extra gear, like the electronic limited-slip rear differential and underbody skid plates, helps you tackle a wide variety of landscapes like a pro. Inside, you’ll find the upgraded Uconnect infotainment system, which includes an 8.4-inch touchscreen and complete smartphone integration with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
If you’re looking for a luxurious ride, check out the Grand Cherokee Overland. Its air suspension helps ensure a smooth, comfortable ride to work. The dual-pane panoramic sunroof and upgraded leather upholstery increase the luxury. The Summit adds to the Overland’s lineup with high-tech safety features and even greater luxury. The diamond-quilted leather upholstery will make you feel like you’ve spent big bucks on a European luxury vehicle while the 19-speaker Harman Kardon audio system and driver safety aids enhances your experience.
In the SRT, you can blaze around town, courtesy of the 6.4-liter V8 engine which pumps out 475 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque for a thrilling ride up the highway. The SRT also comes with specialized all-wheel drive designed for high-performance driving on the track. The new Trackhawk takes the SRT’s high-performance ride a bit further. Under the hood, a supercharged 6.2-liter V8 delivers an insane 707 horsepower and 645 pound-feet of torque. And, with its upgraded adaptive suspension and powerful Brembo brakes, the Trackhawk does more than live up to its name, with an aggressive ride around the track.
Is the 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee All-Wheel Drive or Four-Wheel Drive?
This rugged SUV is actually available with either four- or all-wheel drive, depending on which model you select. The speedy SRT and Trackhawk models come standard with all-wheel-drive technology specially designed for a swift, sporty ride on the pavement. These models are unavailable with four-wheel drive.
If you prefer to take your show off the road, choose from one of the Grand Cherokee’s three four-wheel drive systems. The Quadra-Drive II is the most advanced of the bunch. It does such a good job of detecting slippage that, if necessary, it can even transfer 100 percent of available torque to a single wheel.
How Much Can the Grand Cherokee Tow?
This mid-size SUV is extremely capable. Max tow ratings vary according to powertrain. To tow max loads, test-drive a two-wheel-drive Grand Cherokee with the V8 engine that is capable of pulling up to 7,400 pounds. That’s quite a big boat or a family camper. With the V8 engine and four-wheel drive, the Grand Cherokee is still very capable, towing up to 7,200 pounds. With the V6 engine, you can tow up to 3,500 pounds. That’s more than enough utility to haul a pair of Jet Skis or a small Airstream into the wilderness.
